Joan Concannon joined the University of York as its created the University of York’s first Director of External Relations in October 2009 She manages a portfolio of reputation building teams including student recruitment and admissions, development and alumni relations, community relations and life-long learning, communications and marketing and international relations.
She is also the co-founder of the York Festival of Ideas (www.yorkfestivalofideas.com), the largest free festival in the UK. In 2014, in its fourth year, the festival held 140 events over ten days with 40 national and city partners and attracted more than 20,000 people.
Prior to joining the University of York in 2009 she was Director of External Relations at the University of Dundee for 7 years and project led the V&A at Dundee initiative including securing Scottish Government £17m of financial support.
